Incredible Edibles

We have been working hard on our Incredible Edible project this year at Ballydrehid. Each year we grow a variety of vegetables in our garden to use in our classrooms - make sandwiches, omelettes etc. We have done it this year as part of our Incredible Edibles. We planted tomatoes, potatoes, chives, strawberries, carrots, spinach, lettuce, turnip and cucumber. We planted our seeds and studied the best and worst conditions for their growth. We nurtured our seedlings until they were ready to be planted outdoors. We have also been studying the insects and minibeasts which have an effect on our produce and their overall contribution to our eco system. We have been studying balanced diets to include our locally grown foods and identifying our produce on the food pyramid. We have also been studying about Irish products and produce to ensure we know the source of all our food and to understand the importance of supporting our local economy.
